John De Rienzo is extremely proud to have recently been awarded ‘Fellowship’ Of The IOV (Institute Of Videography)

BACKGROUND HISTORY
When he entered the wedding industry full time in 2007 he was determined to stand out from the crowd and being extremely passionate and creative, strived to set himself apart from the stigma that surrounded the so called ‘Wedding Video’
He joined the professional organisation called the IOV with the aim to become qualified member and have his work assessed by industry leaders. A daunting thought! no friends to back
pat him, or tell him how wonderful he was. No one to return a compliment to him because he had done the same previously for them! His work would be judged solely on what he had produced in an unbiased way by judges looking out for his best interests, being straight and honest and also offering advice on how he could improve his product.
MASTER MEMBERSHIP
He submitted a sequence for assessment in late 2007 with much anticipation and a few sleepless nights!
It was a wonderful feeling of achievement to get his results and a pass for ‘Master Membership’, an approval that his work was of a standard which satisfied the judges in all aspects of filmmaking.
He also received helpful advice on points which could help him improve his product further, as well as his skills in general. With the wedding industry being unregulated, this leaves the door open for anyone to pick up a camera and call themselves professional wedding filmmakers! many filming as a way of getting the extra cash flow at weekends whilst working in another environment full time during the week.
John De Rienzo cannot stress the importance of looking up a qualified member of the IOV when having a once in a lifetime event filmed such as a wedding. It not only shows commitment from the company involved but a way of telling you that they are accountable to such an organisation and in turn gives customers the confidence they need when booking.
FELLOWSHIP RECOMMENDATION
Not satisfied with ‘Master Membership John set his goals higher and wanted to achieve ‘Fellowship’ of the IOV, a two stage process and much harder to achieve!
He submitted work for assessment in 2010 knowing that he had to achieve a minimum pass of 90% or over to achieve ‘Fellowship Recommendation’ the first of the two stage process.
He was absolutely ecstatic to hear that he had passed, the achievement is not to be taken lightly and it is an expression again of his passion to succeed within the wedding industry.
AWARDED FELLOWSHIP OF THE IOV
This is where it gets really difficult. John had to send in a further two pieces of his work for assessment, both of which needed to score 90% or over to be awarded ‘Fellowship’
He thought long and hard about his submissions. John wanted them to be both different to each other, showing diversity. One being slow paced with vocals to carry it through and another upbeat and cutting to the rhythm to show his knowledge and editing skills.
In June 2011 John De Rienzo did indeed achieve ‘Fellowship’ of the IOV, with both sequences scoring over 90% and the highest ranking within the organiation which few have achieved!
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO YOU?
Firstly, John wanted to share his good news with you to show you that he is committed to raising the bar within the wedding industry and being pro-active is one of his ways to show this.
He knew when he set out in the wedding industry that he wanted to be an individual that stood out amongst the crowd. John has never followed trends to the extent where he has wanted to copy other people’s work, but rather use his own imagination in creating a beautiful representation of the wedding day film.
His work has been known to be upbeat, contemporary, but also cinematic and you can see these styles emerge on the De Rienzo Films website, showing his diversity and understanding in creating a film to suit each couple, situation, and occasion, whether it be slow paced, cinematic, or upbeat and contemporary.
We hope by reading this blog entry that you will understand not only the importance of choosing a qualified member of the IOV, but that it is also an expression of commitment to the industry as a whole knowing that the person you have booked is a professional wedding filmmaker with a passion like his to move the industry forward and be accountable to an organisation such as the IOV.
If you are a fellow wedding filmmaker yet to make the move to the IOV, or indeed to become qualified then John would love to talk privately with you and share his experience and how being part of the IOV has helped him in every way. It is a wonderful resource, a great place to network and show your work, to meet new people with the same passion in person, to go on training days and receive a monthly magazine called ‘Focus’, to attend a yearly convention with seminars and to submit work for awards and recognition of your hard work and much more…..why are you sitting on the fence?
Let’s all strive to push the industry forward and support those who are helping us create that goal.
